Cheetahs In My Shoes

living with the imaginary menagerie and all that it entails

Hello Cheetahs

Finally, the cheetahs get their own little piece of the web and hopefully will get to extend their exploits into more than 500 characters.

As a quick update, we now have 4 groups of cheetahs, living in Giles’s large assortment of shoes in the porch.  Mostly they sleep and have their breakfast in the shoes and then spend the rest day with us.  Sometimes they sleep in his bed and sometimes they get up to a bit of mischief and sneak off to sleep in other beds in the house.  They help Giles get through situations that he finds difficult – be they physical or emotional – and sometimes they’re just here because they can be and it makes us laugh.

Groups 1 and 2 are the older cheetahs – they get to travel more and explore on their own (they’ve been to Spain this summer), groups 3 and 4 are the younger ones who have to stay at home with their mummies.  Obviously.

In addition to the cheetahs, we also have a small community of banana people who live under our house.  They tend to be a bit muddy as they get home via a door in the grass in our back garden.  They’re very small and don’t tend to get into shoes although do enjoy a trip out, especially to the splashpark (helps with the mud).

Our newest additions are 4 groups (4 is the magic number when you are 4!) of 12 dinos who have come to stay with the cheetahs.  The love of dinosaurs seems to have stemmed from a visit to Knebworth House dinosaur gardens back in June.  Personally I don’t get the whole fascination with large, weathered fibreglass dinosaurs, and to be honest, Giles seems more fond of the cuddly one he’s had since he was just a babe in arms.  But the dinos are here to stay – but I’m not to worry, they only do little roars (imagine demonstration), except at 7am when they need to wake everyone up.  Maybe, just for the rest of the holidays, we could get them to roar at 7.30am, or maybe even later??

Jenny blogs about life, being a mum of 2, additional medical needs, cake, gin and whatever else comes to mind. She lives with a load of imaginary friends (they're the Cheetahs in the Shoes) who are entirely responsible for her starting blogging in the first place. Expect to find photos, cake, the odd rant, stories of the imaginary menagerie, her views on being a parent and occasionally something that makes sense...

  1. What an enchanting post – children’s imaginations are just wonderful. I have also read your ‘About Us’ – what a story you have to tell ….. and I love the angle you are writing this from. Will be tuning in for more!

  2. Took me a while to figure out how cheetahs managed to fit in shoes! Very witty post!

  3. I love the fact that this post is just plain MAD ! Banana people sound very cool people to hang out with! Bean has an army of miniature invisible friends all called nimpom pimpon – maybe I should send them over to hang out with the cheetahs and banana people!

    • The Banana People are very cool – and have a love of wellies, muddy puddles and all good stuff – but they’re the quietest of the imaginary menagerie. For seriously bonkers work (including paw print recognition entry systems!) have a read of http://wp.me/p1NbQD-4j and somewhere in my ramblings are the stories of having to stop the car to pick the Cheetahs up from football…
