Not the most imaginative title for a blog post – I’m not quite sure what else to call it. As part of the Cheetah Keeper’s Sister’s Brownie “Seasons” badge you have to observe insects on a flowering plant or bush and see what they’re doing. Our next door neighbours are blessed with the most gorgeous pink rhododendron at the bottom of their garden (or ‘that pink thing’ as it’s been called before now) which has been a hive (‘scuse the pun) of activity over the last few days as all sorts of bees have made their way to and from it collecting pollen.
The Cheetah Keeper’s Sister was decidedly underwhelmed by the experience (we are going to have another go when the buddleia comes out) but I had a lovely time with my camera.

I loved the title! I was expecting an Aesop’s Fable-type post but your beautiful photographs ensured I wasn’t disappointed.

I spent ages watching the bees tumbling in and out of the rhododendron flowers, probably my favourite flowering shrub, although ours have grown into huge ‘trees’ now – magnificent. And a never-ending source of photographic material.
Did the CK’sS notice the ginormous pollen sacs on the bees’ legs? How do they move about with all that pollen? Fascinating

I think she did – and yes, how do they manage to balance with all that pollen…? The next part of the badge is to taste 3 different types of honey and decide which one she likes best…

Thank you – I managed to get them just before they started to fade in the sun – a week on and the same plant looks a bit, well, tired now
